The cluster of the 21 connected and sustainable cities and urban areas in Europe and the Mediterranean

" Work otherwise for a better quality of life in the city and invent new ways to create value has become more than ever an imperative choice for a common sustainable balance within the evolution of human activity towards new

practices : e-business, mobile work, methods of organization and creation of value, speed and time optimization, new uses of collaborative and 2.0 technology... "
Richard COLLIN, Director of the Institute of Enterprise 2.0 of Grenoble Ecole de Manegement

21 cities and urban communities in Europe and the Mediterranean, innovative and committed companies, a network of experts, international researchers, associations, institutions, have united to create experience and build innovative and operational initiatives for the sustainable and connected city of the 21st century

A partnership that is both public and private

21 cities and urban areas, who are the members of the Cluster, are associated with large companies, recognized for their innovation policies and their commitment to sustainable development. They do not compete directly on the issues covered by the Cluster

The Cluster is based on a collective effort and a partnership that is both public and private. It is based on trust and requires both commitment and active participation from its members

It is composed of :

■ 21 cities and urban areas of Europe and the Mediterranean :
7 cities in northern Europe,
7 cities in the Mediterranean,
7 French cities
■ 10 leading companies,
technologically innovative, committed and complementary
■ organizations :
Associations, other local authorities, international organizations, media, universities and research centers working on the city, sustainable development and energy efficiency

These members participate in the discussion, share solutions and express themselves through shared vision and a rigorous methodological approach.

Steering and operative rules

The cluster has a steering committee to make it operational :

■ strives for dynamic input, makes choices, rules and coordinates the actions undertaken by the Cluster. It ensures independence and transparency of the various stakeholders to ensure respect for the rules governing actions that are both public and private
■ ensures the centralisation of issues, projects and ideas to have the best expertise and resources
■ establishes and facilitates the process of disseminating and sharing information and best practices
■ facilitates and monitores the effectiveness of the Cluster's actions
■ provides advice for all stages of the various actions

Operative rules to achieve quick results :

■ an action plan and a schedule of working sessions developed by the members
■ working seminars in the member territories, uniting all partners in the Cluster
■ the use of the appropriate technologies, studies and research based on the proposals developed by the steering committee

ACIDD and Grenoble Ecole de Management set up a new independent structure fully dedicated to the cluster. The articles of this structure will be available soon.
