The Cluster Green and Connected Cities is the result of international discussions focused on the need to bring sustainability and interconnectedness of our cities, two complementary concepts for improving the quality of life.

Background

The guidelines formulated at the European Forum of 27 May 2008 in Brussels by the Committee of Regions, ACIDD and GEM on the issues of « Green & Connected City, sharing initiatives » confirm the priority to rethink the ways of working, urban mobility, housing, cultural practices to keep them at the heart of sustainable development approaches.

First meetings

Since the first phase in September 2008 many partners involved in the project, have manifested their commitment and support. The networking meeting of November 26, 2008 in Lyon during ICT 2008 has fully validate the Cluster project and confirm the need and urgency of creating it.

Since ICT 2008, meetings were held in Paris, where the first members met. The meeting of February 12, 2009 at home of Aquitaine in Paris has led to a progress report on the cluster, to build and clarify the methodology and the roadmap of the Cluster.

Shortly after, members met in Paris, still at the headquarters of the Post, April 29, 2009 to address more technical issues like budget and launching of the working groups on the project Ecocentre 2.0.

The membership of the cluster increases gradually. Strasbourg, in particular, has joined the Cluster in May 2009.

At the forum May 26, 2009 in Paris, organized by ACIDD on the subject e-activities and sustainable development, the Cluster appeared as a response to the question: "Can French people save 1 million hours per day ? "
This forum was held at State Secretariat, with the sponsorship and participation of Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, Secretary of State for the prospective development of the digital economy and in partnership with the Caisse des Depots, DIACT, The Europ'Act program, Grenoble Ecole de Management and program partners TIC21, and during the parliamentary debate of May to the National Assembly (Bill aimed at promoting telework).
